100WC - Kea A

Rattle, crash, bang, boom… They were the sounds I heard while I ran for cover as the ground shook under my feet. “Huddle like a turtle under a strong desk” The instructions my teacher had taught me were running on repeat in my mind. I knew I had to move and quickly. Walls around me started crumbling and falling into pieces. I was curled up, holding my head, praying my parents would be okay, then everything stopped and I managed to look around. My world as I knew it had fallen apart. The earthquake wreaked havoc. I only felt despair.

  1. Hi Kea
This is an incredibly powerful piece of writing for the 100WC. The language you have used creates a very real image in the reader's mind.
I wonder if you experienced the Canterbury earthquakes when they happened? I lived in Christchurch at the time and what you have written is such an accurate description of what happened.
Thank you for your wonderful work.
